Henry's Blessing

We  had the opportunity to bless Henry last Saturday with our friends and family there to support us, and it was a really fantastic experience. Henry is such a precious little person, and I feel really blessed to be his mom.
  Here are some pictures!

My mom, Jeff's mom, and my grandmother (mom's mother) dressing Henry for his blessing.

The little white tuxedo that Henry was blessed in was the same tux that Jeff wore when he was blessed 26 years ago!

His cuteness was almost too much for my mom. :)

His little tux included a little white shirt attached to satin pants, satin jacket (with tails), a bow tie and a cummerbund.
Whenever Henry's hot, he gets super lethargic and just sleeps.

Can you see his little faux-hawk? And my cousin Camille?

It woke him up just a bit when I took out his pacifier. Also, there's my cousin Savannah.

It's a bit harder to see his bow tie and cummerbund from this angle.

That's our sweet landlord, Herman, who drove back from California early in the morning to make it to the blessing.

Injured Patrick hangin' out in the background.

Our cute little family.

All the men who stood in the circle: My brothers, Nate and Layne, my grandpa, my dad, our bishop, Jeff, Jeff's step-dad, and our landlord, Herman DuToit.

That's about it. Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and support us, it was really great to have you there!

Henry's Newborn Pictures

I'm so excited to finally have these pictures! Here are some of my favorites:

This little ottoman was made by my great-grandfather and given to me by my grandmother.

We also put together a birth announcement for some of our friends and family who aren't on facebook. It looks like this:

Yep-I stole the idea from Pinterest. But it's super cute, so I don't feel bad about it :)There was another picture I liked better for the bottom because of the way Henry looked in it, but the other elements of the picture didn't work as well as this one.

I love how cute Henry looks in this picture! I just don't like that the sign is askew, my hair isn't right, and my face is too much in the frame. But Henry looks so adorable and tiny!

So what do you think? Which ones should I frame?

Fun Surprises

When Henry was 2 weeks old (last Friday),  Jeff was watching him while I got some sleep. Since Jeff has had paternity leave on Thursdays and Fridays during the month of August, he's been taking Henry on those early mornings so I can get more sleep than I normally get.
So last Friday Jeff is just hanging out in his underwear on the couch, holding Henry, and feels something wet on his leg. He naturally assumes that it's pee, so he doesn't feel too alarmed. He stands up to get a new diaper for Henry and sees that it wasn't pee, but poop. A liquid river of poop that isn't stopping! Jeff picks Henry up under his neck, grabs his feet, and takes him to his crib as quickly as he can. He's scrambling to get the wipes out of the container, but they just won't come, so he's throwing the plastic container around like crazy. I hear the struggle with the wipes going on through the monitor while I'm trying to sleep in our bedroom. It's loud and keeps me awake, so naturally I turn it off. Right after I turn it off, Jeff starts speaking into it (somewhat loudly), asking me to hurry in and help him. I obviously don't hear him, which only makes the situation more frustrating and desperate for Jeff. Almost in a panic, he takes off his poop-covered clothes, throws them in the washer, runs into our bedroom (completely naked), and says "I NEED YOUR HELP!"
I jumped  right out of bed, threw my hair up in a bun, and we got the situation sorted out. Jeff started calling the situation "Poopocalypse." Jeff also had the misfortune of being thrown up on an hour after he had cleaned himself up and changed his clothes! So far, it has been the biggest poop drama we've experienced and we've just had to laugh about it.
Well yesterday, Henry decided to celebrate the one-week anniversary of "Poopocalypse" by vomiting all over me and creating "Pukepocalypse."  I've never seen that much puke come out of a baby before. He threw up like a full-grown man! And of course, it had to happen right after I had gotten out of the shower and changed into an actual outfit. I mostly just wear a pair of Jeff's basketball shorts and a t-shirt all day, every day, but of course as soon as I put on a cute dress he pukes all over me. This time, though, I managed to get a picture. Even though it's a pretty good picture, it doesn't completely capture just how much vomit there really was.

I ended up having to throw everything I was wearing in the washer. You'll notice that my hair is wet, which shows you just how recently I had gotten out of the shower. Just rotten luck all around.
It's alright though, because even though stuff like "Poopocalypse" and "Pukepocalypse" happens on a somewhat infrequent basis, stuff like this...

....happens much more often.

Amateur Photoshoot

We had our friend Robyn take Henry's newborn pictures a few days after he was born, and while we're waiting to see them, I wanted to take some pictures of my own. I don't really know anything about photography, but I have a beautiful little baby so I didn't let my ignorance keep me from taking lots of pictures of him. I also wanted to get pictures of him with some of the blankets that friends and family members made for him/gave him so they could see Henry enjoying them.
And, as those of you who read my blog regularly already know, this is where I post as many pictures of Henry as I want so here they are:

Usually I don't post my favorite picture first, but this time I did. This one's my favorite. It even looks like Henry's saying "peace!" to everyone.

He looks so sweet in this picture. I was so glad he was awake for our little photoshoot. :)

I love pictures of him where it looks like he's saying things.

He's been looking directly at me a lot more lately. Until recently he has just been looking past me at nothing in particular.

This is his "Who, me?" expression. It's often more exaggerated than this, though.

He has such a cute little tongue!

He has such big, pretty, blue eyes!

I love how surprised he looks in this one. So cute!
That's all for now. Once we get the other pictures (which, I'm sure, will look much more professional) I'm sure I'll be showing you those, too.

The Many Faces of Henry

Our little Henry makes some of the cutest faces! We're pretty sure he gets his expressive features from me, especially because we'll often see him make faces that I make on a regular basis. I've been trying to capture these faces with my camera, but it takes way too long to get the camera out and take the picture, so I've resorted to using the less-than-great camera on my cell phone. I still have a hard time capturing the expression I'm after at just the right moment, but I've managed to get some good ones in the past week or so.

This face is a toned-down version of his "suspicious" face. He usually looks really suspicious of us when we're feeding him, which doesn't make sense, but it's still really adorable.

This looks just like the "Kimberly Pouty Face", though I'm not sure he has anything to pout about.

This is his sweet, calm, demure face. This usually happens after he has eaten a lot but hasn't yet fallen asleep.

I wish I knew what this face was all about, but I love the shape his eyebrows are making in combination with the shape his mouth is making.

I mostly love this picture because of the little mohawk he's got goin' on, but this face usually means that he's a little bit uncomfortable-either because he's hungry, gassy, or burpy.

This is his "Birdface" which is my second favorite of all of his faces. He puckers his lips up until they're super SUPER small, and raises his right eyebrow. I have a close-up of birdface, too:

HOW CUTE IS BIRDFACE?!?!

I saved the best for last! I caught the biggest smile I've seen him make so far! It's so stinkin' cute that I almost can't stand it! I hope you're ready, cuz here it comes:

HOW CUTE IS HENRY?!?!
The only thing that I wish was different about this picture is the camera on my cell phone that I took it with. But even though it's not a super high-quality picture, it's still easy to see his big smile and how adorable he is, so it's still really awesome.
Also, I want an iphone. I'm really hoping that iphone 5 comes out soon because Jeff told me that he'll make sure I get one when it does. Just imagine how much better my pictures will look when I've taken them with an iphone 5!

Anyway, I'm sure that there are more adorable expressions to come, and I hope that I'll be able to capture them all! And you'll most likely be seeing them here, whether or not you're interested. :) That's the beauty of having a blog!
